Internet accelerograph recordings of low-level earthquakes in southwestern British Columbia from 2002 to 2003

Abstract
In 2002, the Geological Survey of Canada began to replace stand alone strong motion instruments with new Internet Accelerograph instruments as part of the upgrade of the strong motion network in southwestern British Columbia. From 2002 to 2004, the Internet Accelerograph instruments have recorded four minor to moderate sized earthquakes; consisting of the MW 3.9 29 November 2002 Georgia Strait earthquake, the MW 4.2 25 April 2003 Olympic Peninsula, Washington, earthquake, and two offshore Vancouver Island earthquakes (MW 5.8 15 July 2004 and MW 6.4 19 July 2004). This open file report documents the early history of the Internet Accelerograph instruments and presents processed acceleration time series and peak ground acceleration values for the 2002 and 2003 earthquakes. The shaking levels for these smaller earthquakes are at or just above the noise level of the instruments, reaching peak horizontal ground acceleration values of 1.85 cm/s2 and 7.79 cm/s2 for the 2002 and 2003 earthquakes, respectively.
