Abstract

Cet article porte sur les enjeux communicationnels et institutionnels inhérents aux transformations de la bibliothèque publique et sur les dynamiques institution-usagers à partir de l’étude empirique de la bibliothèque Marc-Favreau à Montréal. L’analyse révèle une imbrication étroite de questionnements situés au carrefour de la nature des missions de l’institution et des relations avec les citoyens, entraînant des modalités discursives, communicationnelles et pratiques plurielles, tant accomplies qu’en friche. L’éclairage de ce déploiement communicationnel, dans ses constituantes aussi bien convergentes que dissociées, constitue l’amorce d’une mise en perspective qui interroge la notion de bibliothèque citoyenne ainsi que les liens avec l’idée de tiers lieu et les logiques de démocratisation et de démocratie culturelles, de même que l’univers conceptuel de la citoyenneté culturelle.
