Abstract
Rock-Eval7/TOC data are presented for washed cuttings samples at 10 m intervals in the Northrock et al. East MacKay I-77 well (64o 46' 41.61" N Latitude; 125o 43' 10.28" W Longitude) located in the central Mackenzie Valley south of Tulita, Northwest Territories. The basal part of the Upper Cretaceous Slater River Formation is in the very early mature stage of petroleum generation and exhibits good petroleum source potential with hydrogen index values as high as 560 mg HC/g TOC and TOC values up to 8 to 9 wt%. Mature (Tmax of 441 to 449) organic-rich intervals in the Devonian Canol and Hare Indian (including Bluefish Member) formations have residual source rock potential with TOC values of 2 to 6 wt% and HI values of 300 to 340 mg HC/g TOC. Much of the Cretaceous interval contains reworked organic material that obscures the actual thermal maturity trend.
