Abstract

This report summarizes infrastructure and resource information for an area of northwestern Canada extending between 60 and 70° north latitudes and 110 and 141° west longitudes across the northern Canadian mainland sedimentary basin. Political units, including First Nations boundaries are included along with railway, road, and trail networks, power distribution networks, as well as existing and proposed petroleum pipeline routes. Proven, or discovered, petroleum resources (1340 MMbl oil and 11.6 Tcf gas) are tabulated and illustrated, as well as all existing and previous precious and base metal mines and uranium, coal and other non-metallic mines. The northern Canadian mainland sedimentary basin of the report area is divided into petroleum exploration regions and areas that are characterized by unique geology and physiography. The report includes a series of formation tables that are unique to each exploration area and which include information concerning petroleum shows and source rocks in each exploration area. This report is one of a series of GSC Open File reports that are intended to be part of a geological atlas of the northern Canadian mainland sedimentary basin.
