Les études menées sur la sainteté musulmane ont beaucoup cherché à en établir une typologie, à insérer des catégories dans un temps linéaire, à chercher des transitions, des passages. Restituer la perspective centrale de l’hagiographe à partir de son oeuvre reste la première démarche pour comprendre comment se formate un modèle de sainteté et s’écrit une tradition. L’étude que nous proposons, à travers la Ḥilyat al-awliyā’ d’Abū Nuʿaym al-Iṣfahānī, tente d’explorer à partir de la figure de l’ascète ce discours de conceptualisation.
