Os fluxos migratórios contemporâneos em direção à Europa - a “crise migratória”, são vistos aqui sob a perspectiva dos estudos de trauma cultural. The Optician of Lampedusa, narrativa literária da jornalista inglesa Emma Jane Kirby, é tomada como uma problemática tentativa de elaboração e resposta através da transformação do presente em passado e memória, em uma posição de ambivalência entre bystanding/standing by.
