Abstract
Scanning electron microscopy image of a murine bone marrow-derived macrophage cultured on a microstructured silica substrate that was fabricated through thermal shrinking. Macrophages on this surface topography exhibit unique star-shape morphology and significantly enhanced phagocytic capacity compared with their counterparts on flat surfaces, although no change in their pro-inflammatory response and plasma membrane receptor diffusion is observed.
