L'étude de l'administration des institutions hospitalières de la Nouvelle-France ouvre la voie à d'intéressantes comparaisons entre la gestion de tels établissements en terre coloniale et dans la mère patrie. D'abord, en Nouvelle-France il n'existe pas de recteurs d'hôpitaux, poste principal de direction en France.
