Cet article porte sur le rapport qu’entretiennent les immigrants francophones originaires de l’Afrique subsaharienne avec la langue française dans un contexte francophone minoritaire. Il ressort des entrevues réalisées auprès de ces immigrants francophones minorisés que l’accès à l’emploi est un facteur déterminant dans l’importance qu’ils et elles accordent au maintien de la langue française. De même, l’accès à l’emploi constitue un élément essentiel qui influence leur relation à la communauté francophone de l’Ontario, en particulier dans la grande région de Toronto. Les difficultés qu’ils et elles éprouvent à décrocher un emploi en français les amènent à orienter leurs enfants vers les écoles de langue anglaise pour s’assurer qu’ils parlent couramment les deux langues officielles du pays. Ainsi, en maîtrisant l’anglais, les enfants seraient mieux à même de pleinement saisir les opportunités offertes par un marché du travail qui est largement anglophone.
