Abstract
Les municipalités, à l’international comme au Québec, sont de plus en plus impliquées dans les enjeux liés à la mobilité et à l’intégration des personnes immigrantes. Cette nouvelle réalité démographique que connaissent désormais de plus en plus de moyennes villes au Québec demande aux institutions municipales de repenser leurs actions et la mise en place de leurs programmes. Cet article porte ainsi sur la place émergente des municipalités dans l’intégration des personnes immigrantes au Québec. Les données présentées sont reprises d’une recherche effectuée en 2015-2016 auprès des membres du Réseau des municipalités en immigration et relations interculturelles (RÉMIRI) du Québec. Ce réseau de concertation, formé de fonctionnaires municipaux, fut mis en place afin de mieux répondre aux défis des nouvelles formes de diversité. Ce dernier a mis en lumière la question de la gouvernance de proximité par rapport à l’intégration des personnes immigrantes sur leur territoire. Parmi les résultats se trouve notamment la création d’une typologie de l’action municipale en matière d’immigration et de relations interculturelles qui permet de cerner le rôle croissant des municipalités dans le domaine.
