L'article s'interroge sur les composantes de ce qui caractériserait la diaspora, en particulier la diaspora arménienne et cela en se posant principalement la question suivante : qu'est-ce que l'héritage (complexe et tragique) de l'origine arménienne implique lorsque l'on est assimilé à une autre nationalité et culture, lorsque l'on vit en dehors et loin du pays d'origine ? C’est à travers une analyse détaillée du film expérimental Girl from Moush (1993), de la cinéaste canadienne d'origine arménienne Gariné Torossian, que l'auteur tente de répondre à cette question en démontrant de quelle façon et pour quelle(s) raison(s) les Arméniens de la diaspora (essentiellement en Occident) se fient et se lient aux images - images de la patrie originelle, ses figures et ses symboles culturels, voire ses clichés. Le film, basé sur la technique du collage, rassemble des images variées typiquement liées à l'Arménie (par exemple, les églises) ; la recomposition de ces images accentue non seulement leur portée iconique mais aussi mémorielle.
