Abstract
Peut-on lire Corinne ou l’Italie comme une amplification de L’Italienne, ou Amour et Persévérance ? Paru en 1804, le roman de Jean-François Dognon mêlait déjà un tour d’Italie inspiré de Dupaty à une histoire d’amour où les caractères nationaux jouaient un rôle essentiel. L’article met à l’épreuve l’hypothèse d’un palimpseste en analysant un réseau ramifié de correspondances : l’alternance entre discours narratif et discours savant, la caractérisation individuelle et culturelle des personnages, la présence de péripéties communes. Il met aussi en évidence l’intertexte fictionnel partagé de Corinne et de L’Italienne : Grandison, le roman anglo-italien de Samuel Richardson et l’épisode italien de La Nouvelle Héloïse.
