Abstract
Comment approcher la spiritualité autochtone en évitant tout autant son travestissement que son enfermement dans le passé ? Nous ne traitons pas ici de contenus spirituels autochtones (symboles, rites, récits, etc.), mais plutôt des rapports établis entre eux et des horizons d’interprétation variés, y compris allochtones. Nous souhaitons éviter l’essentialisation de la spiritualité autochtone, essentialisation qui donne souvent prise à son objectivation puis à sa marchandisation. Nous examinons d’abord le concept de spiritualité autochtone, employé par des autrices autochtones, en évaluant l’adéquation de ce concept de spiritualité pour l’étude des traditions « spirituelles » autochtones. Par la suite, nous présentons en survol le « retour à la tradition » engagé parmi les peuples autochtones depuis le début des années 1970. Dans la troisième partie, nous présentons quelques discours autochtones qui apparaissent comme des actualisations novatrices de la spiritualité autochtone en contexte de décolonisation et qui, à notre avis, invitent à appréhender le spirituel autochtone comme une posture personnelle et collective de résistance et de créativité, nourrie à une tradition contextualisée et actualisée.
