La science-fiction connaît un regain d’intérêt ces dernières années, non seulement auprès de son lectorat traditionnel, mais également auprès des chercheurs et même des décideurs. Certes, elle est utile pour anticiper et éventuellement modeler l’avenir, mais elle s’avère surtout un puissant outil pour comprendre la face cachée d’un présent gros de cet avenir. À travers des mises en scène qui bousculent nos représentations du monde, la science-fiction questionne non seulement ce que nous pensons, mais aussi comment et pourquoi nous le pensons. C’est ainsi que, loin d’être inférieure à la connaissance scientifique, la fiction la complète par l’exploration d’autres dimensions du réel. Par conséquent, on ne s’étonnera guère que des chercheurs se soient intéressés à son potentiel heuristique en mettant à profit certaines œuvres dans le cadre de leur démarche scientifique. Pour plusieurs, il s’agit de pallier le manque d’imagination auquel nous contraint un hyper-méthodologisme stérile afin de renouveler et d’enrichir le processus de théorisation. Depuis une quinzaine d’années, plusieurs disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales tirent profit de ce potentiel, qu’il s’agisse du droit, de la science politique ou de l’histoire. Ce numéro veut poursuivre dans la foulée en explorant l’intérêt de la science-fiction pour mieux comprendre les réalités de l’entreprise et son rôle dans la société d’aujourd’hui et de demain.
