Abstract
I due romanzi analizzati nel presente articolo, Free Karma Food (Wu Ming 5 2006) e Sirene (Pugno 2007), sono ambedue ambientati in un futuro distopico molto vicino al tempo contemporaneo. Nel romanzo di Laura Pugno sono state scoperte delle sirene nell’oceano, e le mitologiche cantatrici sono catturate, allevate e mangiate come sushi dalla classe dirigente della società, la mafia yakuza. Il romanzo di Wu Ming 5, ambientato nel 2025, offre una visione distopica simile a quella del futuro rappresentato in Sirene. In Free Karma Food, dopo la cosiddetta grande Morìa, con l’estinzione delle vacche, dei maiali e animali simili, la gente si nutre di carne di gatto, di cane e di carne umana. Come nel romanzo di Pugno, la carne uman(oide) è ammessa soltanto agli uomini ricchi e potenti. Perché l’antropofagia diventa un tema nella letteratura e nella cultura contemporanee? È possibile leggere le interpretazioni dell’avvenire dei due romanzi come una critica alla società odierna e una riflessione sulla nostra crisi ecologica? Quali legami (simbolici) tra carne, genere e potere sono rappresentati nei romanzi? Attraverso studi sul cannibalismo nella letteratura, teoria della carne e la filosofia ecofemminista di Val Plumwood, il presente articolo propone delle risposte a queste domande, mostrando alla fine in che modo l’antropocentrismo cannibalistico dei due universi letterari, attraverso il cannibalismo propriamente detto e quello del nostro simile, diventa critica dell’antropocentrismo stesso.
