L’article présente une étude réalisée à Ottawa auprès d’une cinquantaine d’immigrants adultes récemment arrivés qui fréquentent des cours de français pour l’insertion sociale et professionnelle. D’une part, cette recherche visait à tracer le profil et les pratiques langagières de ces immigrants, leurs attitudes et motivations par rapport à la langue et à la francophonie locale ainsi que leurs contacts réels avec cette communauté. Nous avons recueilli ces données à l’aide d’un questionnaire. D’autre part, nous avons effectué une analyse documentaire des politiques d’intégration aux communautés francophones minoritaires dans le but de mettre en lumière les incidences jumelées des facteurs langagiers et d’actuelles politiques linguistiques sur les trajectoires d’intégration de notre population cible. L’étude permet de conclure sur des divergences entre les résultats escomptés des politiques et la réalité d’intégration dans un environnement linguistiquement complexe.
