Abstract
Les villes rhénanes constituent incontestablement un modèle en matière de gestion urbaine. Dans ces villes parcourues par de multiples lignes de transports collectifs, les voitures se font discrètes et les piétons jouissent d’un confort rarement égalé. À ces considérations sur cette qualité urbaine s’ajoute aujourd’hui un discours sur leurs atouts pour un développement urbain durable : faibles consommations d’espace et d’énergie se conjuguent dans ces villes. Depuis la promotion de ce mode de développement, ces villes rhénanes apparaissent comme des modèles. Mais comment fonctionne le « modèle » ? Notre propos ne veut pas chercher à « casser le mythe » de la ville rhénane. Bien au contraire, il cherche au contraire à en comprendre les rouages. En effet, il ne s’agit pas d’imiter, mais de mieux de se servir de ce que l’on voit, pour mieux faire ce que l’on fait.
