Abstract
Research continues to superficially address the social and cultural factors that influence young refugees’ resilience. Expressive therapies have been found to promote resilience in at-risk youth, but empirical research is lacking with refugee children and adolescents. In this paper, we provide an integrative review of the literature on young refugees about expressive therapy and resilience presented through an ecological framework. The review suggests that expressive therapies can enhance young refugees’ resilience by mediating factors across various levels of their ecology. The importance of considering environmental and cultural factors during program development is emphasized.
