Abstract
The complex network theory is an original perspective to analyse innovation in hightech clusters. The Silicon Valley is understood as a network of heterogeneous and complementary actors that constitute a system. The completeness of a network explains its robustness. Venture capital firms (VCF) are one of the main actors that support the robustness of Silicon Valley's complex network. The research explores formal and informal contributions of VCF to complex networks of innovation by analyzing their interactions with start-ups that they back and the other actors of the cluster (universities, large firms, lawyers...).
