Abstract
As a graduate student, Guido Pugliese witnessed the birth of the Canadian Society for Italian Studies in Vancouver in 1972, was its Acting President in 1976-77 and Vice-President in 1977-78.He served in a number of committees within the society, and from 1977 to 1980 was a member of the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Italian Studies, the precursor of Quaderni d'italianistica, on whose board he served from 2003 to 2009.Guido Pugliese was the CSIS President from 1997 to 1999, organizing six conferences (in the spring and fall of each year), taking the society from Ontario to Newfoundland, Quebec and Italy.Whoever attended a CSIS conference in the past forty years of the society's existence met Guido Pugliese, who devoted his unwavering commitment to an institution that he loved and cherished.His activity within the scholarly community and the community at large will be remember for many years: as Director of UTM Humanities Council (2003-05), as well as for the coordination, direction, and frequent authorship of Italian theatre performances with Erindale students.The Italian Cultural Fund, created with proceeds generated through this activity, pioneered a fundraising model that has rarely found its equal in today's Italian academia.Guido Pugliese was the author of vol.
