Abstract
O artigo apresenta pesquisa sobre os usos da comunicação pública da ciência em instituições de ensino e pesquisa no Brasil e no Canadá. A proposta foi, ao estudar a cultura científica, apresentar similaridades e diferenças nos usos da comunicação pública (CP) em instituições, bem como no marco regulatório referente a ciência, tecnologia e inovação nos dois países. Trata-se de pesquisa descritiva, documental e de campo que realizou um levantamento do marco regulatório e das ações governamentais de comunicação da ciência, acompanhado de observação participante e entrevistas. Os resultados indicam que os dois países se encontram em momentos diferentes no que diz respeito à divulgação científica. Existem iniciativas para divulgação de ciência nos dois países, com uma predominância de resultados positivos encontrados no Canadá e a superioridade deste país em alfabetização e cultura científica. No Brasil alguns dos sites das instituições brasileiras procuram apresentar melhor os esforços realizados ou programas voltados para tal fim.
