Abstract
No Canadá, apesar da massificação do ensino superior, as desigualdades de permanência persistem. No Quebec, pesquisas permitiram identificar as regiões de origem dos jovens para quem a taxa de abandono no ensino médio e no ensino superior é mais elevada, entre outros o Caribe e as Américas Central e do Sul. Neste estudo qualitativo, foi realizada uma análise indutiva e retrospectiva das histórias de vida de 24 jovens que frequentavam o ensino superior em Montreal, cujos pais nasceram no Caribe ou na América Latina. Nossa análise crítica revela os efeitos desiguais percebidos da ação escolar e do meio em suas experiências. Em conclusão, algumas possibilidades de reflexão são evocadas para sistematicamente desenvolver práticas de equidade.
