Abstract
Ouvrage collectif à dimension internationale, le Dictionnaire Michel Tournier propose en 323 entrées une présentation analytique de l’œuvre et de la figure intellectuelle de l’auteur (1924-2016). Né à Paris, philosophe de formation, très marqué par le monde germanique, il vient tard à la littérature après des années passées dans le monde de l’édition, de la radio et de la télévision. En retrait d’une modernité incarnée par l’école de l’absurde, le Nouveau Roman et la famille des expérimentateurs du langage, il est élu à l’Académie Goncourt, en 1972, après les publications très remarquées de Vendredi ou les Limbes du Pacifique (1967) et du Roi des Aulnes (1970). Son œuvre renouvelle l’écriture du roman, à la fois réaliste et fantastique, déchiffrant le monde contemporain à la lumière des mythes à portée métaphysique. Grand voyageur s’intéressant aux civilisations orientales, Japon, Inde, à l’Afrique, au Canada, à la photographie aussi – il est le fondateur des rencontres internationales d’Arles –, son regard sur le monde, teinté d’humour, a une portée universelle qui bouscule les conformismes et renouvelle les idées reçues.
