Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse à l’histoire de Miguel de la Flor, esclave métis, emprisonné par le tribunal du Saint-Office de l’Inquisition du Mexique, au motif qu’il aurait fait un pacte avec le diable et pour hérésie. Cette affaire instruite dans la ville de Oaxaca, entre 1662 et 1670, permet d’étudier le cas d’un esclave qui savait lire et écrire l’espagnol et le latin, qui écrivait des pièces de théâtre et de la poésie. Administrateur des affaires de son maître, il s’habillait et se comportait comme un membre de l’élite créole de sa ville. Néanmoins, ce même individu subvertissait certaines valeurs qu’il assumait et pratiquait en menant des actions qui transgressaient l’ordre religieux : telles que le pacte avec le diable et le fait d’interpréter de manière peu orthodoxe les Saintes Écritures, ce qui lui valut d’être accusé d’hérésie et d’apostasie. Le présent travail se propose ainsi d’étudier l’histoire de Miguel de la Flor, en la replaçant dans son contexte.
