Este artículo se inicia reflexionando sobre la universalización de Cien años de soledad (1967) para detenerse en el ingreso de esta en las culturas de lengua francesa. Muestra cómo La Tribu (1981) de François Barcelo se apropia de la estructura que la ficción de Macondo presenta para proponer, desde su contexto, una reelaboración de tal organización textual. Se emplean planteamientos pertenecientes al estructuralismo francés, a la historia de Quebec y a teorías referentes al discurso histórico. También se usan textos que abordan la tradición literaria de dicha región canadiense y trabajos que estudian las novelas involucradas en este escrito.
