Abstract
En este artículo, vuelvo sobre un archivo de entrevistas hechas entre 2013 y 2014 a bailarines que trabajan en Quito-Ecuador. En ellas, pedíamos a los entrevistados que hablaran sobre su trayectoria artística y sobre las maneras en que nombraban y clasificaban su trabajo. También les pedíamos que dieran una definición de danza contemporánea en sus propias palabras. Cuando surgía esta pregunta, un buen número de entrevistados, no se mostraban muy seguros y dudaban, lo cual llenaba el espacio real de la entrevista con vacíos y silencios. A veces, estas definiciones se volvían enigmáticas, especialmente cuando se les pedía que dieran definiciones categóricas. Aunque inicialmente parecía que había una dificultad por parte de los entrevistados para explicar sus propias prácticas, me di cuenta de que estas brechas y dudas en realidad funcionaban como síntomas. Las lagunas en las narraciones de los bailarines vinieron a dar cuenta del particular modo en el que se ha producido el encuentro entre una historia de la danza escénica que circula más o menos a nivel global y la historia local. Por un lado, tenemos que esta relación es claramente asimétrica en términos de visibilidad, y por el otro, que la asimilación de las prácticas locales a esos cánones occidentales parece encubrir otra memoria de prácticas dancísticas y otros modos de hablar de estas prácticas.
