Le musée départemental Arles antique (MDAA) est reconnu pour la qualité de sa prise en charge du mobilier dès sa sortie de fouille afin de permettre sa bonne conservation et faciliter son étude. Si les procédures de traitement des artefacts sont arrêtées, dans le respect des normes, le traitement des restes humains repose, lui, sur un examen au cas par cas, avec le souci de répondre au mieux aux problématiques soulevées par chaque ensemble ostéologique. Cet article est l’occasion d’exercer un retour critique sur les choix du musée pour améliorer encore sa gestion des ossements humains dans un contexte où l’État n’a pas défini de procédure stricte.
