Abstract
Carmelo Vicent Suria (Valencia, 1890-1957), constituye uno de los nombres mas significativos de la escultura valenciana del primer tercio del siglo XX, epoca en la que sus representantes mas destacados alcanzaron fama y reconocimiento. Al igual que ellos, tambien Vicent fue premiado en diversas exposiciones nacionales de Bellas Artes. Presentada a uno de estos certamenes, donde consiguio una medalla, la talla Labrador valenciano conservada en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Castello, serviria de modelo a la escultura en piedra que remata el monumento del mismo titulo en Valencia, una de sus mejores realizaciones en este genero. Clasicismo, realismo, excelencia tecnica, e identificacion con el personaje representado, convergen en una obra, que por su significado simbolico devine un icono del regionalismo escultorico vernaculo.
