O objeto do presente artigo e verificar a possibilidade de aplicacao do atual cenario regulatorio, sob o prisma do combate a pratica de crimes de lavagem de dinheiro, ao bitcoin. Para tanto, sao analisados, a partir de pesquisa qualitativa e exploratoria, os marcos regulatorios do ordenamento juridico estado-unidense, bem como as propostas do sistema da Uniao Europeia e do GAFI, alem dos caminhos adotados por Australia, Canada e Japao, no afa de adequadamente regular a materia, cujos desafios se agigantam em razao das especificidades, tratadas no texto, que fazem do bitcoin uma ferramenta de movimentacao de valores, em escala global, tao efetiva. Alem disso, o quadro legislativo nacional e tambem estudado.
