Abstract
Morality is inherent in human interaction, and questions about the nature of human morality and what promotes the development of virtue and character in a person's life have been extensively studied over the past century. The focus of this entry is, in particular, how the family contributes to the promotion and development of morality. The entry summarizes the current state of key research in the major approaches in developmental psychology that illuminate the role of the family in children's moral development. It then considers more recent research that will likely gain attention in the near future.
