El presente trabajo se realizó en el Instituto de Neurología y Neurocirugía (INN) y tiene como objetivo presentar una investigación sobre cómo se realiza la gestión de costos en los servicios que ofrece esta institución, particularmente el costo de realizar el diagnóstico molecular de enfermedades como Distrofia Muscular de Duchenne/Becker y de su tratamiento para lo que se identificaron los recursos que intervienen en el diagnóstico de un paciente de esta enfermedad. El costo total obtenido por cada una de estas actividades es considerablemente elevado, sin embargo, los beneficios que se obtienen contribuyen a evaluar el tratamiento como alternativa viable e imprescindible para evitar un aumento de la mortalidad infantil y elevar la calidad de vida de los pacientes y sus familiares.
