La importancia de esta guerrilla, asi como su estudio, tiene que ser apreciada por las condiciones del mundo actual. Despues de la caida del bloque socialista, la superacion de una confrontacion entre occidente y oriente, la desaparicion del paternalismo al que estuvo tradicionalmente sometida casi toda la izquierda latinoamericana, el estancamiento de los Partidos Comunistas a escala mundial, las imposibilidades economicas de Cuba para ayudar a los movimientos insurgentes y el congelamiento de la conciencia de los llamados a conformar la vanguardia revolucionaria; surge el enigma de una guerrilla en el ultimo pais (Mexico) que entro formalmente al centro del capitalismo mundial el primero de enero de 1994, al firmar el Tratado de Libre Comercio con EEUU y Canada.
