Abstract
La mine d’or de Sabodala, au Sénégal, s’inscrit dans le regain minier observé en Afrique de l’Ouest durant la décennie 2000. Situé à l’extrême sud-est du pays, dans une région pauvre et enclavée, le projet de Sabodala a soulevé un certain nombre de problèmes environnementaux et sociaux. L’entreprise canadienne impliquée, Teranga Gold Corporation, qui mène au Sénégal sa première expérience, s’est engagée dans une politique d’autorégulation environnementale en s’inspirant des directives de la Société financière internationale (SFI) et des meilleures pratiques internationales de gestion environnementale et sociale. Le bilan de cette politique est mitigé, à cause de l’écart entre les engagements affichés de la société et ses réalisations sur le terrain. Le bilan du projet en termes de Responsabilité sociale et environnementale (RSE) de l’entreprise a été d’autant plus contesté que la faiblesse des institutions publiques n’a pas permis un contrôle effectif de l’impact des activités minières sur le milieu d’accueil.
