En el marco de la concepción chovinista y antiglobalizadora “America first”, Donald Trump avanza con la imposición de un modelo de tratados bilaterales donde prevalecen los intereses propios de EEUU. Washington desbarata los acuerdos internacionales y, con ello, el multilateralismo económico tejido pacientemente por las organizaciones intergubernamentales desde el fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En virtud del tamaño de la economía estadounidense y de su fuerte integración en Norteamérica, si es el primer eslabón que se rompe, acabará afectando al resto del sistema internacional, con consecuencias irreversibles para el mismo, tales como la caída de la actividad económica, el aumento de los precios y el empobrecimiento. Por consiguiente, es fundamental mantener un entorno de acuerdos multilaterales entre las principales economías del mundo y así crear un orden internacional estable que disminuya las relaciones de poder, ponga freno a la carrera armamentista y elimine los conflictos internacionales.
