Helminth infections of the CNS are often accidental during migration of larvae or eggs. The lesions can be severe and rapidly fatal. These diseases are common to humans and animals, transmitted by a great variety of vectors or intermediate hosts, and have diverse modes of transmission. Clinical signs depend on the number and location of the parasites in the CNS and on the host immune response. Because there are no specific clinical signs, diagnosis can be difficult and histopathological identification of the parasites remains the gold standard of diagnosis. This chapter highlights the diversity of Helminths infecting humans, their importance in public health, their morphological characteristics, life cycle, epidemiologic data, pathologic characteristics, and diagnostic criteria.
