A Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas surgiu em 1969 na Escola de Medicina MacMaster, no Canada. A nova filosofia de ensino envolvia o aprendizado auto direcionado e grupos tutoriais. As Diretrizes Nacionais Curriculares (2014) preconizam a utilizacao de metodologias ativas no Projeto Pedagogico dos cursos de Medicina, de forma a privilegiar a participacao ativa do aluno na construcao do conhecimento. Sendo assim, o metodo ABP (Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas) se baseando em solucoes de problemas, esta em consonância com as Diretrizes, uma vez que o elemento central e representado pelo aluno. Observando este contexto, a ABP sugere ser um metodo mais vantajoso em relacao ao modelo tradicional de ensino.Esse estudo tem por objetivo apresentar evidencias sobre a efetividade do metodo ABP sob a percepcao dos estudantes e docentes, exclusivamente nos cursos de medicina. Trata-se de uma revisao bibliografica realizada de agosto de 2008 a agosto de 2018. As buscas dos artigos foram feitas nas bases de dados LILACS, MEDLINE, e tambem nas bibliotecas ScieELO e Scholar Google, com os termos: Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas, Ensino, Medicina, bem como seus correspondentes em ingles. Diante das evidencias encontradas, a ABP se mostra como um metodo efetivo nos cursos Medicina. Contudo, nas atividades do internato os academicos possuem certa dificuldade em continuar o processo de aprendizagem ativo fundamentado na ABP, abrindo caminhos para novos estudos sobre a analise deste fato. Alguns pontos de dificuldade precisam adequar-se para aprimorar ainda mais este metodo de ensino, como a inclusao de quadros clinicos nos problemas do ciclo basico, maior capacitacao do corpo docente para trabalhar com ABP e maior tempo de estudo individual.
