Resumo Introducao: A dor lombar decorre da disfuncao ou alteracao na biomecânica da coluna vertebral. A instabilidade lombar surge quando a fraqueza e a fadiga se instalam nos musculos estabilizadores da coluna, podendo ocorrer estiramentos e lesoes lombares, que ocorrem pelo excesso de movimento e por posturas viciosas inadequadas (1). Contudo, pode ser decorrente ainda de fatores nao mecânicos e estar associada e agravada por outras doencas de base (3). Objetivo: O objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar a prevalencia de dor lombar e qualidade de vida dos funcionarios e comparar com a qualidade de vida dos que nao possuiam a dor lombar. Metodologia: Foram aplicados os questionarios WHOQOL-bref para qualidade de vida e McGill de Dor (McGill Pain Questionnaire - MPQ). Resultados: Participaram desta pesquisa, 27 funcionarios de uma instituicao privada, sendo tres (11,11%) do genero masculino e 24 (88,89%) do genero feminino, todos os 27 funcionarios responderam os questionarios WHOQOL-bref para qualidade de vida obtendo resultados diferentes entre os grupos, e os 16 funcionarios (59,2%) com dor lombar tambem responderam os questionarios WHOQOL-bref com maior prevalencia de (100%) grupo avaliativos. Conclusao: A partir da metodologia utilizada, se conclui que no quesito qualidade de vida, foram encontradas diferencas, estatisticamente significantes, entre os resultados dos funcionarios. A prevalencia de dor lombar foi alta. No quesito de relacao aos descritores aos indices de dor, a maior porcentagem de perguntas foi do grupo avaliativos (avaliacao da experiencia global).
