Abstract
Z inicjatywy Konferencji Episkopatu Polski oraz Sejmu RP rok 2017 został ogłoszony w Polsce jako Rok Jubileuszowy św. Brata Alberta Chmielowskiego. Człowiek ten jest nie tylko świetlanym wzorem troski o ludzi bezdomnych, lecz także wniósł nowego ducha w sposób pomagania ubogim, stając się inspiracją dla osób i instytucji zaangażowanych w działalność charytatywną. Autor artykułu odpowiada na pytanie, na czym polega nowatorstwo św. Brata Alberta w podejściu do problemów ludzi bezdomnych oraz w metodyce udzielania im pomocy? Podkreśla, że życie i działalność św. Brata Alberta potwierdza prawdę o nierozerwalnej więzi między miłosierdziem a chrześcijaństwem. Nie można być uczniem Chrystusa bez konkretnego zaangażowania w troskę o człowieka głodnego, chorego, samotnego, ubogiego, bezdomnego itp. Wielkość św. Brata Alberta polegała na tym, że porzucił malowanie obrazów na płótnie, by zająć się restauracją zniszczonych „Bożych obrazów” w pensjonariuszach swoich przytulisk dla bezdomnych. W artykule są wyeksponowane te elementy troski św. Brata Alberta o bezdomnych, które zachowują aktualność także we współczesnych formach posługi charytatywnej.
