Abstract
This article is an overview of Lina’s work in Canada since arriving as an immigrant from Chile in 1976. As an actor and director, she became increasingly concerned with expressing social and cultural issues related to the immigrant condition, such as alienation, racism, family violence, loss of identity, and disconnection from culture. She observed these conditions in her Latin American immigrant community and in 1988 founded Puente Theatre to look for solutions and to add immigrant voices to the Canadian theatre panorama.
