Cet article présente une étude portant sur le soutien scolaire offert par des parents québécois pour favoriser l’engagement de leur adolescent à risque de décrochage scolaire (DS) lors de la transition primaire-secondaire (TPS). Comme l’objectif général de recherche était de décrire le soutien scolaire au regard des perceptions de 11 parents et de leur adolescent, des entrevues individuelles semi-dirigées ont été menées. L’analyse inductive générale des données qualitatives a mis en évidence l’importance que les parents adaptent, aussi souvent que nécessaire, leur soutien scolaire en fonction de leurs propres caractéristiques parentales, mais également en fonction des caractéristiques et des besoins de leur adolescent. Ces résultats mènent à penser que la connaissance de l’adolescent constitue la clé d’entrée d’une implication parentale adaptée, notamment le soutien scolaire, permettant de favoriser l’engagement et la réussite des adolescents à risque de DS lors de la TPS.
