The journey recounted in this document spanned a period of about 10 years, from theend of the PhD (2007) to current (early 2018). The rst ve years correspond to twopostdocs made at the University of Ottawa (Canada), in two dierent research groups:The rst under the supervision of Amiya Nayak and Ivan Stojmenovic; the secondunder Paola Flocchini and Nicola Santoro, interspersed with short research experiencesin other institutions. The rest of the period correspond to the past ve years spent atthe University of Bordeaux as Ma^tre de Conferences (assistant professor). A schematicview of the corresponding timeline together with main topics is given in Figure 1. Thedocument is organized in two parts, each of which drawing content from both periods(upper and lower parts of Figure 1, respectively).
