Abstract
Dans le dernier tiers du XIXe siècle, le Canada, jeune Dominion, se lance dans une politique active d’expansion, de peuplement et de colonisation. Le gouvernement fédéral, les provinces et les compagnies de navigation et de chemin de fer encouragent les colons à venir s’installer au Canada. En Europe, des structures sont créées et des agents envoyés pour faire la promotion du Canada et recruter des migrants. Brochures, affiches, conférences se multiplient pour vanter les mérites de ces terres vierges qui promettent abondance et réussite. Après avoir remis cette politique de peuplement dans son contexte et présenté les supports de la promotion du Canada en France, il s’agira d’étudier plus précisément les brochures destinées à assurer cette promotion et d’analyser la manière dont ce pays se donne à voir, les éléments mis en avant ou occultés pour séduire les colons français.
