Abstract
La présence de près de cinquante artistes français au Canada entre 1870 et 1914 pose encore beaucoup de questions. Les raisons de leur séjour, leur mode de recrutement, leur milieu d’intégration ne sont pas toujours connus. Deux moments migratoires se dessinent, le premier vers le Québec au cours des années 1870 et le second dans les Prairies au cours des années 1880 et 1890. On remarque qu’ils sont actifs dans différents secteurs : enseignement, illustration, décoration, photographie, gravure et peinture. C’est l’étude cumulative des différents parcours qui permettra de mieux connaître la participation des artistes français à l’art au Canada à cette époque.
