Abstract
Dans ce texte nous nous proposons de présenter très brièvement l’histoire de la langue française au continent nord-américain, ainsi que ses spécificités principales, tenant compte surtout des origines du français au Canada, des réalités et des influences linguistiques qui ont fait naître les particularités de la langue française au Canada. En utilisant les méthodes descriptive et comparative, nous donnons quelques exemples de différences entre le français de France et celui du Canada, ainsi qu’entre le français parlé en Acadie et celui parlé au Québec. Nous montrons pourquoi les Canadiens ont opté pour un français québécois standard (la variété de français socialement valorisée que la majorité des Québécois francophones tendent à utiliser dans les situations de communication formelle) et non pas pour un français de France ou pour le joual. Notre objectif est de donner un aperçu de la langue française au Canada en soulignant l’importance des aspects culturels qui influencent surtout le lexique, qui reste la source principale des spécificités du français nord-américain. On conclue que le français se porte bien au Canada et que les écrivains et les locuteurs francophones y gardent la beauté et la richesse linguistiques.
