Lorsqu’il s’agit d’innover, les entreprises évoluant dans les milieux ruraux minoritaires font face à plus d’obstacles que leurs homologues d’autres milieux. L’existence d’un écosystème d’innovation (EI) a le potentiel d’aider à surmonter certaines de ces difficultés. Cet article explore le fonctionnement de l’EI dans un milieu rural minoritaire de langue officielle française, soit la région de Clare en Nouvelle-Écosse, en se concentrant sur deux questions : Comment les entreprises de cette région interagissent-elles avec les organisations de soutien? Ces interactions sont-elles intégrées à un EI? Les résultats montrent que les principaux acteurs d’un EI sont en place, mais que leur seule présence n’est pas suffisante pour assurer du soutien adéquat. Il manque à ce jour une plateforme commune de rencontre et d’échange ainsi qu’un leader de l’EI. De plus, l’existence d’une culture du secret affecte négativement la confiance nécessaire aux relations fructueuses et limite les échanges entre les acteurs.
