"Le 15 janvier 1636, la Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France, connue sous le nom de Compagnie des Cent-Associés, distribue un imposant lot de terres, soit les seigneuries de Beaupré et de l’île d’Orléans, à la Compagnie de Beaupré : une société composée de huit actionnaires dont six sont membres des Cent-Associés. En ce qui concerne Beaupré, seigneurie présente dans les limites territoriales de la juridiction du gouvernement de Québec, sa façade suit l’hydrographie du Saint-Laurent. Elle s’étend sur 15 lieues de front, au nord du Fleuve, par 6 lieues de profondeur. Son territoire est composé de terres forestières non défrichées, "allant d’une forêt mixte à tendance résineuse à une forêt de feuillus", qui sont en majeure partie montagneuses, notamment au Nord.
