Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse au film San Michele aveva un gallo de Paolo et Vittorio Taviani (1972), une adaptation du récit Le divin et l’humain de Tolstoï (1906). On retrouve au centre de la réflexion des deux oeuvres un discours sur la transformation possible de la société dans laquelle elles se situent. Dans le film, l’histoire de Giulio Manieri, un anarchiste internationaliste du xixe siècle, fait allusion de façon allégorique au climat contemporain – les luttes populaires de la fin des années 1960 – et exprime le processus de marginalisation des instances révolutionnaires qui le caractérisèrent. Le parcours tragique de Giulio – révolution, emprisonnement et suicide – représente ainsi une sorte d’épitaphe sur la fin des espoirs de transformation de la société italienne suscités par la Résistance et désormais définitivement perdus. Cet article a pour but de mettre en évidence la façon dont le scénario, la construction de l’espace scénique et les références extratextuelles contribuent à donner forme à un apologue sociopolitique dépourvu d’illusions.
