Abstract
Cet article étudie le rapport entre les transferts de fonds des travailleurs migrants et les inégalités de revenu dans les pays récipiendaires. Nous cherchons en particulier à vérifier si la relation est non linéaire et tributaire d’un ensemble de facteurs tel que l’origine sociale du migrant. L’étude porte sur un panel de 66 pays en développement couvrant la période 1984-2010 et tient compte de l’endogénéité potentielle des transferts de fonds. Les conclusions montrent que les transferts de fonds permettent de réduire les inégalités de revenu dans les pays économiquement développés et/ou les pays qui exportent moins de main-d’oeuvre qualifiée et dont les coûts migratoires sont faibles, à l’instar de la région MENA, de l’Europe de l’Est et de l’Asie centrale. En revanche, les migrants originaires de l’Afrique subsaharienne ne connaissent pas ce phénomène.
