Introduction The use of mobile applications (apps) in healthcare is increasing. Apps can promote access to services and support health behaviour change. Apps may be useful to support coaching in occupational therapy; however, information to support the selection of these apps is lacking. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate apps for the potential use of augmenting coaching in occupational therapy. Methods Apps were identified through systematic searches in iTunes and Google Play stores. The identified apps were evaluated against pre-determined usability criteria. Results Following screening and evaluation, 36 apps were identified as meeting the established criteria and therefore being potentially clinically useful. From these, 14 were chosen to discuss in depth based on their clinical utility and overall features. Conclusions The apps highlighted may be useful in occupational therapy coaching practice. The evaluation criteria used provide a framework to consider app usability; however, validation is needed.
