Abstract
L’Éthique à Nicomaque définit le bien humain comme « un acte de l’âme qui traduit la vertu et, s’il y a plusieurs vertus, l’acte qui traduit la plus parfaite et la plus achevée (teleiotatèn) » (I, 1098a17-18). Le passage correspondant de l’Éthique à Eudème dit plus sobrement du bonheur qu’il est « l’acte d’une vie achevée (teleias) selon une vertu achevée (teleian) » (II, 1219a38-39). Le présent article traite de l’eudémonisme aristotélicien à partir d’un questionnement sémantique particulier : que signifie l’adjectif teleios dans le contexte très précis des définitions du bonheur, c’est-à-dire quand il sert à distinguer un certain type de vertu ?
